A triptyche showing scenes from Alaska around the turn of the century. The images depict central Alaska at the time, a salmon cannery, the landing of the Governor of Alaska, and of Metlakatla being cleared of trees. The Graphic was a weekly British illustrated newspaper founded by artist, wood engraver and social reformer William Luston Thomas. A successful rival to the Illustrated London News , The Graphic was run by artists and strove to better remunerate and represent their work. Founded in 1869, it reported stories from all corners of the British Empire.
