Illustrated Route Charts and Travellers Hand-book
£450 · Offered by Maggs Bros Ltd
Scarce. A lovely example of late-Victoriana. The route planner provides a series of maps drawn from Admiralty charts, supplemented by views, plans and informative notes on each region. The notes includes descriptions of geography, its settlement, the capital city, its public buildings, clubs, hotels and local attractions. There are sections devoted to Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and New South Wales. The handbook also allows the owner to keep a journal on their travels. The very first page of this has indeed be filled in - noting the departure from Tillsbury to Plymouth on the S.S. Garonne, which is recorded having made regular trips from England to Australia.
