HISTORY OF SENECA COUNTY: CONTAINING A DETAILED NARRATIVE OF THE PRINCIPLE EVENTS THAT HAVE OCCURRED SINCE ITS FIRST SETTLEMENT DOWN TO THE PRESENT ... A thorough history of Seneca County, Ohio, by the prolific historian, Consul W. Butterfield. Butterfield's history includes much general information on the settlement of Ohio and relations with the Seneca Indians, particularly regarding their forced westward migration. Butterfield also includes an account of the infamous Simon Girty, the most feared man on the Ohio frontier, including his 1777 attack on Fort Henry. "2,000 copies were printed, but 1,300 were destroyed by fire in a warehouse in Tifflin, Ohio, 1849. A very interesting history compiled principally from the experiences of the early settlers themselves" - Thomson.
