A REVIEW OF MR. CAMBRELENG'S REPORT FROM THE COMMITTEE OF COMMERCE, IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, AT THE FIRST SESSION OF THE TWENTY FIRST ... First edition of the author's first separate publication. Kennedy went on to write a number of notable novels in the 1830s and '40s. Churchill Caldom Cambreleng of North Carolina served as House administration leader under President Jackson. His report strongly advocated free trade, a position Kennedy felt was playing directly into the hands of British designs. Kennedy's refutation of Cambreleng's argument created a reputation for him as a staunch proponent of protectionism, and in 1838 Kennedy himself was elected to the House of Representatives. Interesting evidence of the development of American markets.
