An important mezzotint portrait by Johann Jakob Haid, of one of the greatest 18th botanical artists, after an original portrait by Heckell. Johann Jakob Haid came from a German family of artists and printmakers. Haid worked initially with the animal painter Johann Elias Ridinger, but he soon went on to found a well-known publishing house in Augsburg. This portrait is from a series which pictured those most closely involved in the publication of Trew's Plantae Selectae,
