One of the earliest works on Abyssinia. Lobo, a Portuguese missionary, landed at Beilul in 1625. He made his way to the Jesuit headquarters at Fremona in Tegre and later to Danquaz. He travelled widely until 1633 when the jesuits were expelled by Emperor Fasiladas. “The author describes his adventures in a racy narrative to which he has added chapters on the history of Ethiopia, the religion, animals, manner of eating and dress of that country, and a description of the Blue Nile” (Pankhurst). Le Grand translated the work into French, appending much important information on Ethiopia’s foreign relations to that point. This edition was published in the same year the first edition.
