Presentation copy, inscribed by Mailer on the front cover to Herb Yellin (1935-2014) the American book collector and founder of the Lord John Press in 1976 to publish signed limited editions of significant American authors: "For Herb Yellin, cheers, cheers. Norman Mailer, March 1992." Yellin published two of Mailer's works: Of a Small and Modest Malignancy, Wicked and Bristling with Dots in 1980, and How the Wimp Won the War in 1992, the year Mailer inscribed this offprint. A scarce item, this article was first published in the Architectural Forum journal in April 1964, and features Mailer's rebuttal in a debate with Vincent Scully, professor of art history at Yale. Previously, in his Esquire column in August 1963, Mailer had attacked modern architecture for its lack of ornament and complexity; Scully published his reply in Architectural Forum, and Mailer's rebuttal was printed with it.
