£400 · Offered by Maggs Bros Ltd
A handsome copy of this fine historical record of Cape Town as it was in the first half of the nineteenth century. “Mr. Borcherds furnishes an excellent description of life in Cape Town and the surrounding districts, socially and politically” (Mendelssohn). At the age of fifteen, the author accompanied Samuel Daniell on an expedition to the Bechuanas. He includes an account of the journey here with details of the various native tribes encountered. Hosken, p22; Mendelssohn I, pp153-4.
