The front paste-down bears the inscription “These sketches are all / by Arthur Bainbrigge”. This may be Arthur Bainbrigge of the Somersetshire Light Infantry (he became Commanding Officer of 2nd Battalion in 1875), and who would have been in South Africa in 1875. The final 12 images in the album relate to Africa: two to Sierra Leone (one of these dated 1874), the rest to the Cape Province.
