Pickering was particularly keen on promoting English emigration to Upper Canada, especially for displaced factory workers and farmers. He describes visits to Baltimore, Buffalo, Upper Canada (where he stayed at Colonel Talbot's farm), and Quebec. Includes details on agriculture, and a statement of the forests, products of the land, etc. The appendix provides important advice to prospective emigrants, including estimates of expenses, necessary provisions for the voyage, etc.
