A “valuable compilation based on Moodie’s Records and the works of many of the early writers on South African matters” (Mendelssohn). Sutherland, whilst on leave from India, travelled throughout the North-Eastern Districts of South Africa compiling information from his own observations and from his discussions with the resident Agents.
