CENTRAL AND SOUTHWESTERN ARIZONA. THE GARDEN OF AMERICA. A rare 19th-century promotional for Arizona, singing the praises of the arid lands of the territory for health and agriculture, and including some important historical data, with charming woodcuts depicting cattle, hogs, and fruit growing. Two editions were printed the same year, without priority: a thirty-nine page edition printed in Tucson, and this forty-eight page edition attributed to Phoenix. Farish, Arizona Territory's Commissioner of Immigration, later wrote one of the primary histories of Arizona.OCLC records only five copies of this rare and fragile work, at the Arizona Historical Society, Azusa Pacific University, the University of California, Berkeley, the Autry Museum, and the Newberry Library. This copy was deaccessioned from the New York Public Library, which ARIZONA IMPRINTS lists as one of only three locations.
