VOYAGE AU CAP DE BONNE-ESPERANCE, ET AUTOUR DU MONDE AVEC LE CAPITAINE COOK, ET PRINCIPALEMENT DANS LE PAY DES HOTTENTOTS ET DES CAFFRES. The first French edition, translated from the original Swedish. Sparrman, a zoologist from the University of Uppsala, was at the Cape when Cook's second expedition arrived, and from 1772 to 1775 he accompanied that party on its famous reconnaissance of the South Pacific. He gives an account of this in the present work. Most of the book is devoted to his experiences in Africa in 1772, 1775, and 1776. An important work of natural history and South Africa material, as well as an interesting account of the Cook expedition. This edition contains a beautiful engraved map of the Cape of Good Hope and sixteen engraved plates of natural history subjects.
