Second edition of this account of travel and hunting adventures along the Nile tributaries, a sort of sequel to the author's THE ALBERT N'YANZA BASIN OF THE NILE (1866). Baker, one of the great explorers of central Africa in search of the source of the Nile, offers observations on the natural history, topography, and inhabitants of Abyssinia (Ethiopia). Hunting episodes with the crocodile, hippopotamus, giraffe, elephant, rhinoceros and gazelle. The author had earlier toured Ceylon in 1845 and settled there for a time. One map depicts Sir Baker's routes and discoveries along the Nile, and the other shows his routes on the Nile tributaries of Abyssinia.
