Modern manuscript poetry, exquisitely bound in lacquer with an equally ornate lacquer slipcase an decorative paper box. One of only 16 copies. Horiguchi Daigaku (1891-1981) was a famous poet as well as a translator of French literature during the Taisho and Showa period. He was awarded several honours including the Person of Cultural Merit ( Bunka korosha ), Order of Culture ( Bunka kunsho ), as well as the Order of the Sacred Treasure ( Zuiho-sho ). The present book contains 16pieces of writing/poetry in his own hand, including “Maiden Girl” ( Otomego ) and “Intimate”. Kakuseikyo was a private publisher based in Niigata prefecture who specialised in elaborately produced limited editions. Particularly impressive is the carved lacquer slipcase which imitates a piece of bamboo in combination with a fine piece of grained wood. Rare. No copy in OCLC.
