TRAVELS IN MEXICO, DURING THE YEARS 1843 AND 44; INCLUDING A DESCRIPTION OF CALIFORNIA, THE PRINCIPAL CITIES AND MINING DISTRICTS OF THAT REPUBLIC; THE OREGON TERRITORY, ... "A New and Complete Edition." This rarely seen Aberdeen edition was issued one year after the first, Philadelphia printing. Although Gilliam was appointed American consul to California, he never seems to have made it there, and the travel part of this book is devoted to Mexico, which he surveyed fairly thoroughly. He also discusses California, Oregon, and the Texas Revolution at some length. The NUC locates five copies of this edition.
