Helena. First edition, first impression, large paper issue, being one of about 50 copies specially bound and printed on handmade paper. Presentation copy inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "Darling Angie, with love from Evelyn". The recipient was Angela Laycock, wife of Sir Robert Laycock, Waugh's commanding officer, for whom Waugh served as personal assistant during the defence of Crete in May and June 1941. Laycock and Waugh were on the last ship to leave the island, and Waugh would later incorporate their experiences into Officers and Gentlemen.
