TRANSATLANTIC SKETCHES. Kelland was a distinguished fellow of the Royal Societies of London and Edinburgh. He travelled in Canada and the United States in the late summer and early fall of 1858. His itinerary included travel on the Mississippi, and visits to St. Louis, Louisville, and Mammoth Cave. Includes some discussion of slavery. The text was utilized as two lectures at the University of Edinburgh upon Kelland's return.
