CORRESPONDENCE RESPECTING THE "TUSCALOOSA." PRESENTED TO THE HOUSE OF LORDS BY COMMAND OF HER MAJESTY, IN PURSUANCE OF THEIR ADDRESS OF FEBRUARY, ... An interesting British document reprinting communications between the Secretary of the Admiralty, Mr. Hammond, and members of Parliament, on what to do regarding the Confederate prize-vessel, Tuscaloosa, originally the American vessel, Conrad, while docked at the Cape of Good Hope. Ultimately, the Duke of Newcastle instructed the Governor of the Cape to restore the Tuscaloosa to the Confederate lieutenant who last commanded her. A controversial decision considering the British government's failure to officially recognize the Confederate States of America. An intriguing example of British sympathy for the Confederate cause.
