EXTRACT FROM THE TREATY MAP OF DISTURNELL OF 1847. REFERRED TO IN COL. GRAHAM'S REPORT...OF AUG. 16, 1851. The map depicts the region between the Rio Grande and the Colorado River, with forts, missions, and towns marked. The map is mainly intended to illustrate the error made by Bartlett in setting the line from the Rio Grande to the Continental Divide too far north, resulting in a 5950 square mile area being on the wrong side of the border. Graham shows the correct location further south, with that entire area shaded in grey. This correction was the cause of a major falling out between Bartlett and his fellow surveyors. This map originally appeared in the report of the Secretary of the Interior for 1851, though this copy was apparently never bound into a copy of the report, and was quite likely issued separately for those interested in the issue of the U.S.-Mexico border after the Mexican-American War.
