FLORA CESTRICA; AN ATTEMPT TO ENUMERATE AND DESCRIBE THE FLOWERING AND FILICOID PLANTS OF CHESTER COUNTY, IN THE STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA. A presentation copy, inscribed on the front pastedown from the author to the New York Lyceum of Natural History. Darlington was one of the pioneering botanists of the United States, working mainly around his home in southeastern Pennsylvania. TAXONOMIC LITERATURE calls this the second edition; but it is, in fact, a completely different book from his slim 1826 effort, and to call it a second edition, in the words of Philadelphia's greatest living bookseller, is "a mistake no one in West Chester would make." With a handsome geological map as frontispiece.
