Wheeler's massive scientific survey of the West occupied a decade after the Civil War, and was a source of pioneering scientific work. This botany volume was prepared by Joseph T. Rothrock, a professor of botany at the University of Pennsylvania. It covers Nevada, Utah, California, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico.
