According to Gagnon, this is one of the first important political works by a Canadian to be published in Canada. Herein Viger outlines his political philosophy, maintaining that French Canada is a separate cultural entity whose rights are preserved and guaranteed under the British constitution, and whose fear of American domination makes her Britain's best defense against American aggression.
