OBSERVATIONS SUR LA REPONSE DE MATHIEU LORD AYLMER A LA DEPUTATION DU TATTERSALL, ET SUR LE DISCOURS TRES HONORABLE E.G. STANLEY, SECRETAIRE D'ETAT POUR LES COLONIES, DELIVRE DANS LA CHAMBRE DES ... Lord Aylmer was governor-in-chief of Canada from 1831 to 1835. This is his response (written in French) to agitation from the increasingly disgruntled Lower Canada Assembly demanding an elected legislative council, among other requests. Aylmer was seen by residents as unfairly preferencing British over French Canadians, and was recalled in 1835 due to increasing pressures which eventually led to the Lower Canada Rebellion of 1837. Also included is Secretary of State E.G. Stanley's state of the colony address, itself quite critical of Aylmer. The final page contains errata and an apology for delays brought on by the deadly cholera epidemic of 1832-34.
