JOURNAL OF A TOUR IN THE STATE OF NEW YORK, IN THE YEAR 1830; WITH REMARKS ON AGRICULTURE IN THOSE PARTS MOST ELIGIBLE FOR SETTLERS: AND RETURN TO ENGLAND BY THE WESTERN ISLANDS, IN CONSEQUENCE OF ... Fowler, an Englishman, sailed from Liverpool to New York in June of 1830. His journal contains a description of the voyage and an extensive tour of New York state, including the prison at Auburn, Niagara Falls, and a long section on New York City. He sailed for England in October. The ship was wrecked in the Azores, and Fowler made a tour of the islands before successfully returning to England.
