All the Conspirators. First edition, first impression, of the author's debut work. This scarce title did not sell well, and while many copies were remaindered, one lone reviewer observed that in the novel "so much is held in reserve, and yet so much of significance is suggested that we share the excitement of explorers hot upon the scent of some great discovery" (Hugh I'Anson Fausset, Manchester Guardian, 25 May 1928).Cyril Connolly wrote in his introduction to the 1939 edition that "this first novel is a key to Isherwood, and the Twenties. [It] introduces a dominant theme of his work, the Evil Mother, fierce, obstinate, tearful, and conventional, who destroys her son in All the Conspirators as ingeniously as in The Memorial and The Ascent of F6".
