First French translation, preceded by the first and second editions of London, 1780. Howes calls for four maps and a plate, but Sabin makes no mention of maps or plates and none are found in this copy. This is one of the keystone works on the history of Russian America, including a number of narratives of exploration. Coxe spent some time in Russia, working to establish the authenticity of the narratives he had collected. This proved to be an immensely popular book.
