THE PROCEEDINGS OF A CONVENTION OF DELEGATES, FROM THE STATES OF MASSACHUSETTS, CONNECTICUT, AND RHODE-ISLAND; THE COUNTIES OF CHESHIRE AND GRAFTON, IN THE STATE OF NEW-HAMPSHIRE; AND THE COUNTY OF ... The angry meeting of anti-war delegates at Hartford in late 1814, attacking national policy. The Convention comprised a series of secret meetings held by New England Federalists in December 1814 to discuss their common grievances against the federal government, to demand several constitutional amendments to redress what they considered to be an imbalance of power among regions. They had further complaints with the three-fifths compromise, the Louisiana Purchase, and primarily with the conduct of the War of 1812, leading some delegates to advocate for the secession of New-England from the union. Although no such resolution was adopted at the convention, the mere murmurings of secession were enough for Democratic-Republican opponents to latch on to, and the bad press combined with Jackson's sudden victory at New Orleans stole the wind from the Convention's sails and ultimately proved fatal for the Federalist party.
