Kojiki ("Records of Ancient Matters"). An early 19th-century edition of the oldest history of Japan and one of the sacred texts of Shintoism. It was compiled in 712 and recounts the mythological origins of the country up to the reign of Empress Suiko (628). This copy has been profusely annotated with reading guides, textual interpretations, and vocabulary explanations.Provenance: Ohya Shobo Ltd, April 2006 - Martin Schøyen (b. 1940), the Norwegian collector of rare books and manuscripts.
