DECLARATION DU ROI, CONCERNANT L'ABOLITION DU DROIT D'AUBAINE, CONVENUE ENTRE LA FRANCE & LES ETATS-UNIS DE L'AMERIQUE SEPTENTRIONALE.... One of the earliest official French acts as a direct result of the Franco-American alliance of the spring of 1778. Having recognized American sovereignty, Louis XVI here relinquished the Crown prerogative of claiming the estates of French citizens dying intestate within the boundaries of the United States.
