First edition of this illustrated guide to Beijing's historic city centre and environs, offering descriptions of temples, altars, parks, and nearby sections of the Great Wall. This expensive production was issued by the city government and carries a preface by Yuan Liang, the city's mayor from 1933. "The rethinking about the city under Yuan's leadership was characterized by a clear and conscious effort to define Beiping [Beijing] as a city of traditional Chinese culture" (Dong, p. 90).
