AMERICAN MEMORANDA, BY A MERCANTILE MAN, DURING A SHORT TOUR IN THE SUMMER OF 1843. FOR PRIVATE CIRCULATION. A presentation copy, with a bookplate on the front pastedown reading: "To Captain Lyon with the Lord Provost's Compts. Glasgow, April, 1844." Lumsden was Lord Provost of Glasgow from 1843 to 1846.The author toured Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Quebec and Montreal, and reported back in this series of letters, largely on financial matters, but he did not wholly overlook matters unconcerned with making a buck (or a pound, as the case may be). A canoe trip down the St. John River left him cold and ready to go home.
