The Wanderings and Homes of Manuscripts. First edition of an example of James's popular history writing, a combination of his scholarly prowess and engaging style. He was a well-respected expert in medieval studies, and often gave manuscripts and other antiquities central roles in his ghost stories.James's contribution to his academic field was prodigious. Alongside research papers, he wrote descriptive catalogues for the Western manuscript holdings of several Cambridge colleges, which remain valuable resources. He also discovered the graves of six abbots in the ruined abbey at Bury St Edmunds, which he traced using information deciphered from a manuscript found in a French library. Provenance: With the inscription "Cecil Hurry, March 1920". Hurry was the librarian and organist of Trinity College, Cambridge, from 1907 to 1947.
