Wages in the United Kingdom in the Nineteenth Century. First edition, first impression, of this mathematical examination of "the recorded facts relating to wages in the United Kingdom during this century" (p. 1). Sir Arthur Lyon Bowley (1869-1957) worked as the first Professor of Statistics at the London School of Economics: his pioneering work led to his serving on several government inquiries and committees. Wages in the United Kingdom developed from the lectures Bowley gave at University College, London, in 1898.Provenance: "Alan Armstrong 1961", possibly the Alan Armstrong who taught at the Bristol School of Economics in the 1980s, with his ownership signature on the front free endpaper.
