Recherches et Considérations sur la Population de la France. First edition of this tract, which "stamps the author in many respects as more than the peer of Süssmilch and Malthus" (Spengler, p. 648). Part I describes the size and condition of the contemporary French population, based on Moheau's work as a public administrator; Part II evaluates factors that govern the rise and fall of populations in different demographics."The purpose of Moheau's study, frequently apparent in his treatment, was the modification and direction of the 'physical, moral, and political order.... in the manner most advantageous to the propagation and to the conservation of the human species'" (Spengler, p. 649). Contemporary authorities attributed Recherches et Considérations to the Baron de Montyon, to whom Moheau was secretary, but this is considered inaccurate.
