Ueber den obersten Grundsatz der politischen Oeconomie. First edition of this scarce treatise on national income accounting, among the few texts to defend Physiocratic ideas between the downfall of Turgot and the work of Karl Marx. Marx's work in the 1880s is often cited as the first work after Turgot to consider the physiocratic Tableau economique on the scale of national income, but R. D. Theocharis has argued that Joseph Lang took a similar approach some 80 years earlier, describing him as "the first real macroeconomic mathematical economist" (Theocharis, p. 319). In the Grundsatz, he develops and revises Quesnay's theories of economic interdependence, going "far beyond the original physiocratic writings" (Uebe, p. 168).
