The author exhaustively collates information on the Malthus family tree, including its most famous member, Thomas Malthus. This copy has the ownership signature on the front free endpaper of the Catholic biographer Joseph Gillow (1850-1921), with his note "the corrections are by my friend the author".The author charts the family continuously to John Malthus of 1558, with earlier disconnected references, starting from the 1429 will of William Malthous.
