First edition of Pagnini's study of the history of trade and taxes in Florence, including "a digression on the value of gold and silver, and on the rate of prices of commodities in the 14th and 15th centuries compared with those of the 18th century. This work is still of use in the study of prices" (Palgrave). Pagnini (1715-1789) held a series of offices in finance and agriculture under the Tuscan government. He also published translations of Locke's writings on money.Included (as the third volume) is the first printing of the Practica della mercatura of the 14th-century Florentine merchant Francesco Balducci Pegolotti, which described the chief trade routes and markets then known to Italian merchants, the business customs and exports of foreign commercial regions, and the comparative value of currencies and measures. It also includes the first printing of Giovanni da Uzzano's 15th-century merchant's manual of the same name, which covers navigation alongside commerce.
