Commemorative book of signatures, presented by Prince Philip to Sir Harold Hartley at the Duke of Edinburgh's Study Conference on the Human Problems of Industrial Communities within the Commonwealth & Empire. An attractive gift, signed and dated 27 July 1956 by Prince Philip, followed by the signature of his private secretary, Michael Parker, and dozens of conference delegates and staff. Brigadier-General Sir Harold Brewer Hartley (1878-1972) was a distinguished chemist and one of the young prince's mentors. He chaired the conference and received this book at the closing dinner, held in the hall of Christ Church College, Oxford.
