The 1961 edition of this long-running handbook, offering a snapshot of the colony's commercial life and major businesses.In the 1950s, following the UN trade embargo on China, Hong Kong shifted towards export-led growth, in particular the manufacture of textiles and plastic goods. Between 1951 and 1961, exports as a percentage of GDP grew from 30 to 80 percent.
