Pietas Londinensis: First edition of this comprehensive survey of public charities in Georgian London, recording their aims, policies, finances, and governors. Anthony Highmore (1758/9-1829), a solicitor and abolitionist, worked with Charles James Fox on libel law and with Granville Sharp against the slave trade. In the preface, Highmore hopes that "If this little work should be favoured with general circulation, I trust it will be found at once an agreeable companion to the beneficent, and a serviceable friend to the afflicted and unfortunate" (p. x).
