GUDIN DE LA BRENELLERIE, Paul-Philippe.

£550 · Offered by Peter Harrington · No longer available

Supplément au Contract Social; First edition of three works relating to social contract theory. Gudin's treatise is nominally a development of Rousseau's views, but itself a wide-ranging work, with a important reflections on the French Revolution. The division of wealth, taxation and population are discussed, with the argument that the best form of government is one that promotes population growth. The second work is by the lawyer Jean Duplan, followed by a response to his treatise; only the BNF copy could be traced, who do not identify the author.
