Principes et observations oeconomiques. First edition of Forbonnais's rare and important criticisms of Quesnay's articles "Grains" and "Fermiers" in the Encyclopédie, and of his Tableau économique.François Véron de Forbonnias (1722-1800) was one of the chief opponents of the Physiocrats in France, though he communicated with and assisted Quesnay with some of his research of commercial data. The Principes is a "close and weighty criticism" (Higgs) of the Tableau économique and of Quesnay's contributions to the Encyclopédie of Diderot and d'Alembert. The Physiocrats answered Forbonnais's obervations in the Éphémerides du Citoyen of the same year. They recognized his ability and intelligence, but regretted his protectionist views, dwelling in the "thick darkness of Colbertism" (Higgs).
