Finanztheoretische Untersuchungen First edition of Wicksell's significant contribution to economics, offering an analysis of, and prescription for, political fiscal decision making. Wicksell "urged that the major part of the revenue burden be shifted from indirect to direct progressive taxes on income and wealth. That treatise also embodied his design on an 'equitable' tax system based on an application of marginal utility theory to the public sector, and a methodology (essentially marginal cost pricing) for pricing pure and less than pure public goods, the services of public utiliuties, and the products of market-sharing oligopolies and cartels" (Palgrave). Wicksell submitted the first part as his doctoral dissertation, for which he was awarded magna cum laude. Library Hub lists only the British Library and London School of Economics copies in British institutional holdings.
