An original German typescript copy of Engelmann's correspondence from, and memories of, Ludwig Wittgenstein, posthumously prepared for publication and with an introduction by his friend Dr. Josef Schächter. With occasional manuscript corrections and occasional notes for the translator, L. Furtmüller, in blue ballpoint and in pencil. Unpublished before his death in February, 1965, the work was subsequently published in 1967 in English translation, with Wittgenstein's letters in parallel English and German language, edited by the Wittgenstein scholar Brian McGuinness, a copy of which is included with the typescript. Included with the transcript of 54 letters from Wittgenstein to Engelmann, are seven short essays, in which Engelmann "analyses and interprets the personality of Wittgenstein and gives and account of their relationship" (Frongia and McGuinness).Paul Engelmann "was a friend and disciple of Wittgenstein's at just the time when Wittgenstein was composing his Tractatus Logico-philosophicus; he was no philosopher but was intensely interested in cultural and (in a wide sense) religious questions." He studied in Vienna under the architect Adolf Loos, and he and Wittgenstein worked together in the late 1920s on the design and construction of the Wittgenstein House in Vienna.
