The suffrage activist and author of The Yellow Wallpaper and Herland (1860-1935) was a highly successful lecturer, an occupation she relied on as a source of income; her talks generated much of her fame and were widely reported on by the media.Major James Burton Pond (1838-1903) became a lecture circuit manager after a distinguished career in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Undoubtedly the most distinguished lecture agent of his time, he also represented the likes of Susan B. Anthony, Winston Churchill, Arthur Conan Doyle, Emma Goldman, Mark Twain, and Booker T. Washington.
