Bonnet (1814-1889) "became a counsellor of state and a member of the Institute. He wrote in the Revue des Deux Mondes from 1860 to 1884, in favour of the monopoly of a bank of circulation, a single standard (gold), indirect taxation, and a reduction of the expenses of the budget" (Palgrave, p. 164).
