Shooting scripts for Yojimbo and Sanjuro. The shooting scripts for two of Kurosawa's most popular films, following the masterless ronin Sanjuro as he manipulates two warring clans. The script for Yojimbo was owned by Senkichi Omura, who played a small role as a travelling attendant in the film. His name and scenes are annotated on the front wrapper and highlighted internally.Omura's name is inscribed in the cast list of Yojimbo on Page 7. He made his film debut in 1933 but was unable to act during the Second World War, returning to the silver screen in Kurosawa's 1948 film Drunken Angel. From then on he became one of Kurosawa's regular supporting actors, in films such as Seven Samurai, Throne of Blood, and The Hidden Fortress. In Yojimbo he appears in a non-speaking role in Scenes 54 to 56, 61, and 64.Yojimbo "remains one of the most influential and entertaining films of all time" (Criterion Collection), alongside its sequel Tsubaki Sanjuro. In these films Kurosawa combined the Western and samurai genres, setting them in an isolated village in the middle of a clan war, with a main character (Sanjuro) who works as a amoral bodyguard to both sides. Yojimbo won awards at the Venice Film Festival and a Blue Ribbon Award for its star, Toshiro Mifune.The script for Tsubaki Sanjuro features a printed note on the front wrapper asking actors not to spread spoilers.
