Autograph album belonging to the daughter of one of his financial backers, including the signature of Shackleton and other members of the Shackleton family. Inscribed by Shackleton in May 1919, this album belonged to Elsie Dederich, the child of William Dederich (1872-1926), who helped finance the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition. The great explorer was a frequent guest for dinner at Kingswood House, Dederich's Southwark residence, and became a shareholder in his fertilizer company in 1919.Elsie (1901-1988) also met Shackleton's wife, Emily, and three of his children in early 1920. Immediately preceding the leaf signed by Shackleton is a page with a long inscription by Emily and the signatures of Raymond ("Ray"), Cecily, and Edward.The album was presented to Elsie at Christmas 1916 and has her ownership signature on the front free endpaper. The first entry is dated Christmas Day at Kingswood, and other contributors include her siblings, Christiane and Hildegard, and the composers Dorothy Howell and Peggy Cochrane.
