This archive of des Rosiers's cover artwork published by Dodd, Mead and Company in the 1930s includes Agatha Christie's Death in the Air and The Tuesday Club Murders, Evangline Adams's classic work Astrology for Everyone, and romances, adventures, and seasonal anthologies.Further examples include G. K. Chesterton's The Poet and the Lunatics, Berta Ruck's The Unkissed Bride, and occasional non-fiction such as A. Hyatt Verrill's Romantic and Historic Maine. The archive also contains related materials, such as advertisements, a Christmas card design, and a brochure for a 2003 exhibition and talk on the artist, along with the manuscript notes of the guest speaker.Born in Maine, Leon des Rosiers (1890-1968) previously won a Medaille d'honneur for best designed book jacket of the year at the Paris Industrial Exhibition in 1927. Rosiers served in the army in the First World War and worked at West Point in the department of military topography and graphics during the Second World War.
